Summary: The towering, ancient giants of the forests are dying… and all due to a microscopic organism! This week, you’ll take a deep dive into the cause of kauri dieback and learn about ways to prevent its spread. Play fun games with your class, do hands-on activities or create a kauri dieback cleaning station in your classroom. Although kauri forests are only found north of Hamilton, there are resources to make this relevant to all schools, no matter where in the country you are! Explore why these 2000 year-old trees hold such a special place in the hearts and minds of New Zealanders and how they are regarded in Te Ao Māori.

Core objective:
Learn about Kauri Dieback and how to reduce its spread.

Prizes for this week:

  • The top 3x classrooms will be put in touch with a local Trees that Count advisor who will talk to you about the best native trees for your schools site, and help you access free native trees through their online marketplace! Too easy!
